The Japanese National Team has become one of the top teams from Asia over the last 3 decades. Their rise to the top is largely attributed to the increased quality of their domestic league, the J-League, and its move to a fully professional structure. The Samurai Blue have qualified for the last 6 FIFA World Cups, advancing to the elimination round 3 times. Their jerseys are blue – unlike most national sides, Japan does not use red and white from the national flag due to superstitious reasons.
